On July 12, in a remarkable show of support and solidarity, The United States 117th Congress summited Resolution H. RES. 1222 dedicated to Romania, which officially marked the Twenty-Fifth anniversary of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States. In attendance were the two co-chairs of the Friendship Group with Romania in the United States Congress, members of the House of Representatives, Mike Turner and Debbie Dingell, who represent the Republican and Democratic parties. They were the ranking representatives who introduced the resolution that officially honors the quarter century milestone of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States. The Romanian Embassy in Washington initiated and organized the event at the American Capitol to mark the introduction of the resolution, with the participation of several members of the US Congress and members of the Romanian Parliament, the Romanian community, and the Romanian American business environment. The Romanian American Business Council represented by its president, Stefan Minovici attends the ceremonies and saluted the introduction of the resolution while congratulating the efforts of his excellency, ambassador Andrei Muraru. Mr. Muraru has proven – in less than a year – to be a tireless, talented, and dedicated envoy who reinforced and elevated again the close ties between Romania and the United States, as a common commitment to freedom, democracy, the rule of law and economic prosperity. The anniversary also recognized Romania’s efforts to support Ukraine in the context of Russia’s illegal and unprovoked invasion. Noting that “Romania provides critical assistance to the Ukrainian people, providing refuge and transit routes for the more than one million Ukrainians who fled the invasion of Russia”, ambassador Muraru thanked those who attended to mark this important moment for Romania and the bilateral relationship. Numerous members of the Senate and House of Representatives who were present at the ceremonies and those who addressed the event in the Capitol building on the occasion of the introduction of the resolution in Congress. Among them, Republican – Senator Rob Portman, representative Mike Turner (co-chair of the Friendship Group with Romania and the Republican leader of the Intelligence Committee), Michael McCaul (the Republican leader of the Foreign Affairs Committee), Robert Aderholt, as well as Democrats – representatives Eric Swalwell, Bill Keating (chairman of the subcommittee on Europe, energy, environment and cyber Committee on External Relations), Elissa Slotkin, John Sarbanes, among others.
The members of the Romanian Parliament who were in attendance and who addressed the audience during the event were Ben-Oni Ardelean (PNL), vice-president of the Foreign Policy Commission of the Chamber of Deputies and Ana Cătăuță (PSD), vice-president of the PRO-America Group in the Chamber of Deputies. Daniel Suciu (PSD), Alexandru Muraru (PNL), Sabin Sărmaș (PNL), Sorin Moldovan (PNL), Bogdan-Gruia Ivan (PSD) were also present on behalf of the Romanian Parliament.
