On Wednesday, August 11, Stefan Minovici was received in his office by H.E. Andrei Muraru, the new Romanian Ambassador to Washington D.C. Mr. Muraru represents a new breed and generation of diplomats – young, charismatic, eager to work hard and openminded. He was appointed by President Klaus Iohannis on July 7, 2021.
The hour-long discussion was focused on US-Romania bilateral relations, the Visa Waiver Program, a paramount priority for RABC, the strategic partnership between the two countries, healthcare, congressional relations, increase in investments and trade, a new lobbying platform for Romania on Capitol Hill , as well as generating a higher, more prominent profile for Romania in the United States.
Born in 1982, Ambassador Muraru holds a PhD in History (University Alexandru Ioan Cuza – 2011) as well and BA (2005) and MA (2007) from the same academic institution. He had previously worked at the Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes and the Memory of the Romanian Exile (IICCMER) – a governmental agency coordinated by the Romanian Prime Minister. Between 2006 and 2009, he acted as counselor at the Prime Minister Chancellery and was also the personal adviser to the General Director of the National Archives of Romania. He was also a member of the Administrative Board of the Romanian Television (2014). Between July and December 2014, he was a senior adviser to the President of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Klaus Iohannis.
Ambassador Muraru has accepted an invitation from RABC to attend a luncheon scheduled to take place in late September in New York. Together with Ambassador Ion Jinga, Mr. Muraru will accompany President Iohannis at the opening of the 2021 UN General Assembly next month.
